About The Metta Center

The Metta Center

Massage & Yoga

a healing community for the whole you

Leah & Heidi, Co-owners of the Wellness Center share the news of the expansion into two sister centers.

The Metta Center began in 2009 to serve as a massage center for authentic therapeutic massage geared towards treating your unique symptoms and challenges. The therapist spends the time to listen, inquire and discuss your needs and customize a treatment plan to support your healing. In 2012, the Metta Center co-created a center called the Wellness Center, a shared cooperative space for yoga, pilates, acupuncture and a likeminded massage therapy practice. In October 2018, the Metta Center massage therapy team along with yoga classes will be expanding into a sister center of the Wellness Center at 8998 Fern Park Drive, Burke, VA 22015. View the video to hear more.

Sister Center services

At our new location, the metta center will be offering even more services to support your health and wellness. The new center has 2 floors with a new larger yoga studio on the lower level and the massage treatment rooms on the main floor. We will offer more yoga classes taught and semi-private (including TRX sessions) and private personal training . In the future we plan to offer meditation classes, more classes (such as yoga for dudes, ease into yoga, kids yoga, yoga & meditation, tai-chi, Qigong..etc), life coaching and medical intuitive sessions. If those classes or services seem appealing to you or if you would like to suggest a particular type of yoga, please email us and we will see what we can do! Stay tuned for new additions. Find us on Facebook or signup for our newsletter for the most current news.

MOVE UPDATE

The massage services have now moved to the new space at 8998 Fern Park Drive, Burke, VA 22015. Due to water damage in our new studio we will be delaying the move of the yoga classes by a week or so. We are grateful that the water damage was caught early enough and the issue will be fixed and ready for our new space. Stay tuned!

Metta

The name, the Metta Center, comes from "Metta" a concept that expresses a compassionate state of mind and is usually translated as "loving kindness." Cultivation of metta is an essential motivator and important guide in technique that encourages the creation of an environment that is open to healing and effective in reducing stress. Although results are a major goal at the Metta Center, the intention of treating each client with kindness and acceptance is first and foremost.

Metta is another option, another way to respond, to people, situations, events, oneself. It is something practical to develop and mobilize for the war within one’s mind. Too often our minds are flooded by impatience, frustration, and judgment, or even worse, sadness, anger, ill will, hatred, rage. Metta is often the only protection against these roots of suffering, and it is so much more: A haven of hope, good medicine, a reminder to be lovingly mindful, and a blessing.

At the Metta Center, we strive to encourage metta within ourselves and towards each other in our space of authentic healing.

Metta Center Reviews

Once I moved to the NOVA area, I thought Matt the masseuse (at another business) was THE ONE and none better existed. I WAS SO WRONG! I had my first massage with David at the Metta Center, and I could not be happier. It's a small shop that's quiet and serene. The staff was attentive and thorough at every minute of the visit. The only thing that took longer than it should was the Massage, and I am SO not complaining about that! Haha I will be returning once a month from here on out!!!!!

I went to Leah while in the pangs of the grief of bereavement and she was able to not simply help me relax and feel better. Even more, she tapped into the deep energy blockages that were holding my pain and gently and wisely allowed me to release them, using a lovely combination of essential oils in addition to her own attuned and deep presence and touch. I felt profoundly and competently nurtured, and healing was palpable. Thank you, Leah!

- Jack L.

I had massages by Leah and Amy, but never had a male massage so thought I would try David. Glad I did. David performed more of an athletic massage focusing on tight muscles and gave lots of helpful advice. He was spot on. I highly recommend you try all 3 therapists and see what you like the best as they all bring something different to the table.

- Karen S.

Have seen Amy several times since she joined the center -- very happy each time. Most recent was after I had muscle spasms in my back. She always asks detailed questions about how my body is feeling and what type of massage work I am looking for. Her technique is spot on. Thanks to Amy and everyone at the center!

Rose P.

David is awesome! His calm and relaxed demeanor reinforces a formidable knowledge of the human body. As a long time client, I've walked in after stressful weeks at work and walked out rejuvenated. He is perceptive, open to feedback and tailors the massage for your situation at that point in time. When receiving a comforting, relaxed massage I've often fallen asleep at the table, only to awaken refreshed. At other times, when I've asked for a deep tissue massage after a workout, he has chased down every last knot and has suggested stretching exercises that help to manage my body. My plantar fasciitis, which led to an ungainly hobble when I got out of bed, was completely managed by his massage therapy alone.

- Keith R.

I’ve been a client of David’s for several years and can’t say enough positive things about him. He has a thorough understanding of anatomy and is experienced in many types of massage – including Thai and deep tissue, which are my favorites. I’ve had issues with my neck and shoulders for decades, and no chiropractor, physical therapist or other massage practitioner has been able to relieve the pain as David can. In addition to treating my neck and shoulders, his knowledge and skills enable him to pinpoint other problem areas and treat them as well. And for those days when I have no specific ache and pains, David gives me the most relaxing full-body massages that I’ve ever had. Regardless of how I feel when I enter the room, I always walk out feeling thoroughly relaxed, with my aches and pains gone or significantly diminished, and with a heightened sense of well being.

- Jason A.

I've now had 3 massage appointments with Leah--2 deep tissue and 1 Thai. She has such a healing gift. I have finally found relief for shoulder pain and foot pain that I've been trying to deal with for the last year. Leah also has such a supportive way of healing emotional blockages as well by being open, non-judgmental, and accepting. I am so grateful to Leah and everyone at the Center for being so welcoming and supportive. Thank you!

- Dorothy G.

Thank you, Amy, for a deeply attuned and truly healing massage. The whole experience was so harmonious and caring, and the massage itself so professional and outstanding, that the Metta Center is by far the best place I know to get a massage in this area.

- Annie M.

I love everything about this place. From the moment you walk in the door and greeted with such a beautiful, relaxing ambiance, to the actual massage itself. The massage is one of the best I've ever received. I keep coming back and telling everyone about this place!

- Meredith G.

Leah gave me a Thai massage combined with Reiki, and the experience was of a different order than anything I remember in years of massages with talented people. She is a gifted healer, and her work is soulful, professional, and deeply attuned. As a psychotherapist, I find Leah radiating such health and coherence that I would want every client of mine to experience her healing work, and the energizing beauty and harmony of her center and presence. Thank you, Leah!

- Kate N.

I have a chronic illness that often leaves me in head-to-toe pain. A massage here almost always gives me free range of motion with little pain, within 24 hours after the session. Worth every penny.

- Lynn F.

I've tried and been unsatisfied with numerous places, but now found one I'll return to. You enter the front door and your experience begins. A warm and comfortable setting - no noisy street traffic or distracting sounds (doors closing, floors creaking), I had the hot stone massage. Leah was caring and attentive to the room setting and on which areas to focus on, areas to avoid, and level of heat. A truly wonderful experience, from start to finish!

- Julie K.

My first time getting a Thai massage. Very different from other types of massage. Leah was wonderful and let me know exactly what she was doing. The combination of stretching and pressure is quite unique and really therapeutic. Tranquil atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!

- Cheryl B.

My Thai massage with Leah was a profound experience. The massage itself was relaxing and energizing at the same time. The relief I felt in my body that day and the next day was a delight. Even more, I experienced a great release of energy and my system continues to flow with ease. Leah is a true professional. The whole center is welcoming.

Ron W.

Recommended by my personal trainer, Leah zeroed in on some problem areas that have developed while lifting weights. The therapy was relaxing, of course, but I feel more energized going to the gym now. I'll be back, for sure.

- George S.

Wow! The Metta Center is great! -- My wife and friends have been telling me for years the benefits of massage therapy. Being stubborn I listened politely and ignored the advice. Stress has finally caught up with me, so I decided to do something about it. I am so glad I did. They have created a perfect environment...serene and comfortable. After just one session, my stress levels have drastically been reduced! I will definitely be back, and it looks like my goal of becoming more balanced will happen. Many thanks The Metta Center!

- Brian B.

Over the years, I have been to many massage therapists, but NO ONE compares with Leah at Metta. Leah is a gifted massage therapist with a sensitive understanding of my needs each time I see her. This intuitive ability to treat each patient, in her unique way, makes her an invaluable help in making every ache, every sore muscle respond and feel better and renewed. Her treatments, whether hot stones, or scented herbal oils--makes for a truly amazing, heavenly experience--total bliss!

- Susan H.

My husband and I took a couples instruction session with Leah today and it was amazing.  First and foremost, it felt wonderful.  The massage was one the best I've had in the DC area.  The class was structured so we could learn professional massage techniques and practice on our partners.  Leah was highly professional, excellent at explaining and demonstrating the techniques, and very knowledgeable.   I would highly recommend Leah and the Metta Center.

- Kari H.

Loved this!  The Metta Center was calming, professional, and full of special little extras -- no detail was overlooked.  The masseuse paid close attention to my cues, and made sure I left happy.  I loved the decor in the room and hot towels on my feet, but most of all, I loved just how talented Leah is as a masseuse.  I can't wait to go back.

- Elizabeth H.
