Prenatal Massage/Postnatal massage

This therapeutic massage includes specific techniques catered to each trimester that provide relief for common discomforts during pregnancy. This soothing technique can decrease back pain, muscle cramps and pelvic pain due to structural/postural issues associated with pregnancy. It will assist your body for delivery by helping increase elasticity and range of motion in the joints and muscles associated with childbirth. Research has shown that pregnancy massage strengthens the immune system, decreases blood pressure, decreases stress hormones, shortens labor time and offers stress relief. This research is documented by the Touch Research Institute of Miami

CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle yet powerful technique that is effective in releasing headaches, neck pain, back pain, and mental stress. CST uses a light touch to manipulate the bones of the cranium and spine releasing restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. This optimizes movement of cerebrospinal fluid through the spine and around the skull improving performance of the central nervous system. Developed by osteopathic physician John Upledger, this therapy provides a very soothing and relaxing healing experience.

Only offered by Deirdre Segarra

Cupping Massage

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed, reducing muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Although cupping can leave the circle bruises on your back, not all techniques leave bruises. I use different methods and different types of cupping sets and it is all based on the client's needs. Some clients find cupping to be a very soothing way to relieve tension.

Fertility Massage

Fertility Massage is a unique and effective massage protocol, including fertility awareness, cleansing therapies and visualizations that Claire Marie Miller developed through her own experience of consciously conceiving her daughter Jessica Hope in 1984.

Following years of demonstration models who conceived shortly after receiving a fertility massage during the workshop, it was expanded into a full stand-alone training for massage therapists.  Even though many of these students were told that they'd never conceive, after receiving a fertility massage often a student did conceive within one to two cycles.

Headache Relief Massage

In a headache specific massage session, multiple massage modalities (such as myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, acupressure, reflexology and traditional Swedish massage) are combined to address underlying muscle tension patterns.

Hot Stone Massage

The Metta Center's hot stone massage incorporates Swedish and deep tissue techniques with the incredibly soothing power of heat. Calm and comfort are evoked as you experience the sensation of warmed basalt stones placed underneath you (tucked next to your shoulder blades, mid-back, glutes and calves) and on top of your body (at your upper chest/sternum and navel). The weight of the smooth stones encourage you to drift into a state of deep relaxation. Your muscles are further softened as the stones are incorporated into the massage strokes. If desired, deep tissue work is then focused in tight overstressed areas such as your shoulders and calves.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage

A form of gentle massage that stimulates the lymphatic system and encourages the movement of lymph fluids. The lymphatic system is part of your immune system and helps to filter and clean toxins, proteins, harmful cells, viruses, and dead cells about twenty times faster than the body is able to do on its own. Once toxins are filtered properly, the body is able to relax more deeply and use its energy more directly to regenerate the cells.

Please Note: Metta Center practitioners do not currently perform lymphatic drainage massage in oncology cases, or in cases where a doctor has given a diagnosis of lymphedema.

Emphasis is placed on the comfort of the client and no forceful manipulations are used. The client has the option to remain clothed for the session. Ortho-Bionomy helps to alleviate both acute and chronic pain by reducing chronic muscle tension, soothing the joints, increasing flexibility, improving circulation, and relaxing the entire body. Ortho-Bionomy helps people break the cycle of pain—without creating more pain. It is effective for recovering from injuries, surgery, and stress.
